A few minutes prior to the half, coaches and players will gather by the end zone gate.  Once both teams have exited the field SLP youth teams will be introduced.  This opportunity is for all tackle, flag, and 3rd grade flex teams.

3rd Grade Competitive Flex Football Offering for the 2019 Season

Protect the Play Enhance the Game

The SLP Youth Football Program has been aligned with LMAA for many years and continues to participate in the fundamental and philosophical approach of equal playing time and development for all participants wanting to play football.  Saint Louis Park, along with Maple Grove, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Wayzata, and in conjunction with LMAA, will be offering a competitive Flex Football program this year for 3rd grade.

Starting in 2019 tackle football will no longer be offered as an option for 3rd grade.  LMAA and participating Area Directors have agreed to a Flex Football transition year between youth flag football and tackle football programs.  This flex football style of play is catching on nationwide and is becoming highly competitive in the state of Minnesota from 3rd grade through high school in the form of 7on7 leagues.

3rd grade Flex Football will be similar to the tackle program of years past, but without the tackling.  This will be an important transition year where the players will start to learn the playbook and execute plays against competition in preparation for 4th grade tackle football. Players will wear cleats, padded helmet and mouthguard.  Team jerseys and a soft shell helmet will be provided to each player for competition and practice through the SLP Youth Football Association.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of football and learn to work together as teammates, Learn different playing positions & the playbook.  We look forward to coaching kids to be studious, respectful and accountable.
