Under the guidelines of MN Department of Health and LMAA football association we are moving forward with the 2020 tackle and flag season for 4th, 5th and 6th grades. We will also be welcoming 7th and 8th grade tackle.
Please review our LMAA preparedness plan and return to play documents. Other COVID-19 related documents can be found on the Parents page.
The safety of our players, spectators and staff has always been at the forefront of what we do.
The Lake Minnetonka Athletic Association (LMAA) has been closely monitoring the evolving situation with youth sports in Minnesota and our ability to provide a football season this Fall. The update released on June 19th from the Minnesota Department of Health (MNDH) gives us confidence that will be able to hold our football season with the appropriate mitigations in place. We will continue to monitor the direction from the MNDH as the current epidemiology of the virus continues to evolve within MN.
Given this information we are moving forward with our fall season and are continuing to develop our return to play protocols under the guidance of the CDC, MNDH and USA Football. We will communicate these measures as they are developed and approved. We would like to thank you for your patience and support during these unprecedented times and can't wait to see you in August.
Please join us Friday, October 11th for your child's team to be recognized during half time at the SLP High School football game against DeLaSalle.
Have your child wear their jersey to get in for free! Just enter through the visitor gate to the left of the ticket windows.
A few minutes prior to the half, coaches and players will gather by the end zone gate. Once both teams have exited the field SLP youth teams will be introduced. This opportunity is for all tackle, flag, and 3rd grade flex teams.
Teams competing that receive exemplary scores for each game - voted on by officials after each game - will be honored with the Youth 1st Team Awards at the Maturi Pavilion on October 26th, prior to the Maryland vs. Gophers Football game at TCF Bank Stadium. Let's represent SLP and be recognized during the game!

The SLP Youth Football Program has been aligned with LMAA for many years and continues to participate in the fundamental and philosophical approach of equal playing time and development for all participants wanting to play football. Saint Louis Park, along with Maple Grove, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Wayzata, and in conjunction with LMAA, will be offering a competitive Flex Football program this year for 3rd grade.
Starting in 2019 tackle football will no longer be offered as an option for 3rd grade. LMAA and participating Area Directors have agreed to a Flex Football transition year between youth flag football and tackle football programs. This flex football style of play is catching on nationwide and is becoming highly competitive in the state of Minnesota from 3rd grade through high school in the form of 7on7 leagues.
3rd grade Flex Football will be similar to the tackle program of years past, but without the tackling. This will be an important transition year where the players will start to learn the playbook and execute plays against competition in preparation for 4th grade tackle football. Players will wear cleats, padded helmet and mouthguard. Team jerseys and a soft shell helmet will be provided to each player for competition and practice through the SLP Youth Football Association.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of football and learn to work together as teammates, Learn different playing positions & the playbook. We look forward to coaching kids to be studious, respectful and accountable.
